Residents with memory problems due to Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias deserve a special level of care. The comfortable, warm environment designed for the secure first floor of the Gallery Hall has extra staffing and interesting activity areas including its own dining room, patio, and garden. Right outside the door of their spacious personal rooms (all apartments are single occupancy) are spaces designed to engage residents in successful interaction and meaningful activities. Studios, one bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments are available. Personalized assessment of each resident’s cognitive and mental strengths and weaknesses is the basis for individualized activity plans designed to maximize independence, compensate for challenges, and promote engagement. To ensure the most comfortable and pleasant atmosphere for all of our residents, our Alzheimer’s wing will mirror the rest of The Palisades with design details such as hard wood floors in common areas and designer-grade carpeting and crown molding in individual living spaces. In addition to these standard features, the memory unit will also feature an outdoor patio with gardens and multiple windows to allow for frequent exposure to natural light and views of beautiful Cheyenne Mountain. An additional common area will include a relaxing spa room, carefully designed with beautiful accent details. We wish to also provide stimulating activities specifically aimed at Alzheimer’s and dementia and appropriate for each resident’s individual level of ability and function. To do so, we will outfit a multi-purpose room with options for a variety of activities ranging from cooking to art classes. We believe that our residents should be allowed the opportunity to continue their lifelong interests and pursuits under the care of our warm and considerate staff. Furthermore, we feel maintaining family ties is especially important for our residents and will provide a comfortable and inviting meeting space for families to gather as they desire. We at The Palisades understand the difficulty of caring for a loved one suffering from cognitive decline. With this in mind, we are working with UCCS in developing a unique caregiver support program in concert with the care your loved one will receive from our staff. We will strive to provide you with peace of mind, knowing your loved one will receive the quality of care they deserve. Research has shown a relationship between the quality of one’s environment and improvement or slowing of cognitive decline. With this in mind, we will provide a friendly and enriched environment to improve and maximize your loved one’s level of functioning. Let our caring and qualified staff provide your loved one with nothing less than the quality of care you want for them.
