Sara Honn Qualls, Ph.D.
Sara Honn Qualls is a clinical psychologist who has been on faculty at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs teaching psychology and gerontology, conducting research, and building a doctoral program in the psychology of aging since 1984. As the Director of the UCCS Gerontology Center, she coordinates the UCCS-Palisades collaboration. Her primary task is to look for interesting ways to apply research findings to everyday life at Palisades. After writing books summarizing research throughout her career, Palisades offers new challenges to make the information relevant and useful to staff and residents of a housing complex. She spends her days developing new ways to help people live the way they want, with the best possible health, vitality, and sense of purpose. Dr. Qualls is involved at Palisades with staff training, development of information technology, tracking resident check-ups, and bringing the best of the university to the residents. At home, she is just “mom” to 3 middle- and high-school kids who hope she “gets a clue” by the time they grow up! Mark (her husband) and Marge (her mother-in-law who lives next door) complete her local family (along with two dogs, a ferret, and a guinea pig). Her own aging parents live in Champaign, Illinois where she grew up. Life is always engaging and interesting, sometimes entertaining, and never boring. What is new to learn tomorrow?
