Amy Silva-Smith, Ph.D., ANP

Amy Silva-SmithAmy has been working as an adult nurse practitioner since 1991 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a master’s degree in nursing. She shared a practice for nearly 10 years with a group of internists and also worked in an urgent care clinic during that time. Amy completed her PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in 2004 after which she relocated to Colorado Springs to begin her position as assistant professor at Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. In this role, she teaches graduate students who are in the nurse practitioner program and coordinates partnerships with community health care agencies who serve as clinical practice sites for the students. Her special teaching interests include courses with a gerontology focus. In addition, Amy works one day each week providing primary care for adults at the El Paso County/City Employee Medical Clinic. Her research projects include studies with caregivers of stroke survivors, primary support persons to individuals who are visually-impaired, and testing interventions for nurse practitioners to promote successful aging in older adults. Amy is married and has two children. Her hobbies include hiking, running, knitting, and xeriscape gardening.
